Tennis Elbow
Elbow Pain Doesn't Just Affect Tennis Players
Despite its name, tennis elbow is far more common in people who have never picked up a tennis racket. Repetitive gripping, lifting, typing, tool use, and many everyday activities can overload the tendons on the outside of the elbow. At Bilan Chiropractic, we look beyond the painful tendon to understand why it's being overloaded and whether chiropractic care may be an appropriate part of your recovery.
Could Tennis Elbow Be Causing Your Pain?
Common symptoms include:- Pain on the outside of the elbow
- Weak grip strength
- Pain when lifting or carrying objects
- Discomfort while shaking hands
- Pain with twisting motions
- Forearm tightness
- Symptoms that worsen with repetitive activity
What's Actually Happening?
Tennis elbow, also called lateral epicondylitis, develops when the tendons that attach to the outside of the elbow become irritated from repeated stress.Over time, gripping, lifting, repetitive arm movements, or poor mechanics can overload these tissues faster than they recover, leading to pain and reduced function.
How We Think About Tennis Elbow
Pain is often where the problem shows up-not necessarily where it begins. The elbow works together with the wrist, shoulder, neck, and upper back. Limited mobility, muscle imbalance, or repetitive movement patterns elsewhere in the arm can increase stress on the elbow over time.
Our goal is to understand why that stress developed-not simply where it hurts.
How We Evaluate Tennis Elbow
Before recommending treatment, we evaluate how your entire arm functions.Your examination may include:
- Elbow mobility
- Wrist and shoulder movement
- Grip strength testing
- Functional movement assessment
- Orthopedic examination
- Posture evaluation
- Activity and work history
Your Personalized Care Plan
If chiropractic care is appropriate, your treatment may include:- Chiropractic adjustments
- Joint mobilization
- Soft tissue therap
- Stretching and strengthening exercises
- Grip and forearm rehabilitation
- Ergonomic recommendations
- Home exercises
Why Patients Choose Bilan
We don't just treat sore elbows. We evaluate how your entire upper extremity moves to identify why the tendon became overloaded. By improving movement and reducing unnecessary stress, we help patients return to work, sports, and everyday activities with greater confidence.
Can chiropractic care help tennis elbow?
A. Many people with tennis elbow improve with conservative chiropractic care that addresses joint mobility, muscle function, and movement patterns.
Do I have to play tennis to get tennis elbow?
A. No. Most cases result from repetitive work, lifting, gripping, or recreational activities-not tennis.
Should I stop using my arm?
A. Not always. Modifying activity is often more beneficial than complete rest.
Will imaging be necessary?
A. Most cases can be diagnosed with a thorough examination. Imaging is recommended only when clinically appropriate.
